Kevin Sparenberg’s passion for computing began when his father brought home a TI-99/4a—the first computer in their household. Beyond playing cartridge-based games, Kevin was introduced to TI-BASIC, the first programming language he encountered. This sparked a lifelong interest in technology and problem-solving.
Over the years, Kevin has built a diverse career across multiple IT disciplines, working in environments ranging from boutique consultancies to global law firms. His roles have included network engineer, systems administrator, mail administrator, mobile device manager, accidental DBA, and monitoring engineer.
In 2012, Kevin was honored as a THWACK MVP by SolarWinds for his outstanding contributions to the SolarWinds THWACK community. He continued to support the community while expanding his technical expertise and leadership.
In 2014, Kevin joined the SolarWinds product management team, where he helped shape product development and created public demos that showcased real-world use cases. By 2016, he became the emcee of the SolarWinds User Group (SWUG) program, presenting at industry events and sharing his knowledge with thousands of IT professionals.
In 2024, Kevin joined SecuriThings, a company focused on automating the management and security of physical security devices. The platform enhances real-time security, compliance, and cyber protection while improving operational efficiency and reducing costs. Kevin’s deep understanding of the challenges faced by IT professionals—especially the pressure to deliver with limited resources—fuels his passion for scripting and automation.
Outside of technology, Kevin enjoys traditional archery, blacksmithing, woodworking, and motorcycle day trips with his wife, Dana. He’s also a proud fur parent to Peanut (a pug/shih tzu/yorkie mix) and Pistachio (a mini poodle/shih tzu mix). The Sparenberg family resides in the Mid-Atlantic region.
