Kevin’s passion for computing started when his father brought home a TI-99/4a, the first computer to enter their house. Aside from playing a few cartridge-based games, he was introduced to TI-BASIC – the first programming language he would encounter.
Since then, he has plied his trade in various environments, from a small technology consultancy to an international law firm. In 2012, the SolarWinds staff awarded him THWACK MVP for outstanding contributions to the SolarWinds THWACK community. He continued contributing to the community while performing his roles as a network engineer, systems administrator, mail admin, mobile device manager, accidental DBA, and (of course) monitoring engineer.
In 2014, Kevin joined the SolarWinds product management team to help drive product developments and, later, weave the products into a cohesive public demo showing real-world examples of the products as they would appear in production environments. In 2016, he began attending, presenting, and acting as the SolarWinds User Group (SWUG) program emcee. He has attended countless industry trade events, spoken and presented before thousands of customers, been a fixture at TWHACKcamp, and taught what he’s learned over twenty years in the industry to anyone interested in listening.
In 2024, Kevin joined SecuriThings, a provider of solutions that automates the management and security of physical security devices for organizations. The system enhances real-time security, compliance, and cyber protection, while also boosting operational efficiency and reducing costs. With a focus on automation and analytics, it provides actionable alerts to ensure these devices remain operational and secure.
He knows firsthand the problems that plague IT professionals – high expectations with limited time and resources – and that’s one reason for his passion for scripting.
His passions outside technology include traditional archery, blacksmithing, woodworking, and riding motorcycles on day trips with his wife, Dana. He is a proud fur parent of a pug/shih tzu/yorkie mix named Peanut. He and his family reside in the mid-Atlantic.
He spends most of his days on the SolarWinds User Community and can be found there as @KMSigma.SWI.
